Conservation/Land Use Report (Del):
Rubicon. 3 work parties (3 days, this weekend, next weekend) Emergency
repair on bottom of Walker Hill. Huge mud hole. There is still snow
there. Runoff into road is trashing the trail. Need to fill with rocks
like we did last year because everyone is bypassing. FOTR will be there.
6/12 have survey crew placing monuments and surveying trail. 6/19
politicos and others to pick spot for little Sluice bypass. Is picked,
will have to do that project for next year. This is a big deal since on
private property/USFS road. Legitimize and add concrete to reduce roll
overs. Setting precedent for getting things done. Was a guy up there
caught with pry bar prying rocks loose into Little Sluice. Trail patrol
is working well. This will be vandalism and federal crime. He drinks &
drives so they will dog him until caught. Brought BRC U4WD Magazines for
people. New sponsor for BRC. ORBA Off Road Business Assn. Only off-road
businesses, it’s a trade assn. CA4WD meeting next year in Reno. Would
like some of us make it next year. Budget should be in order. BRC sent
letter thanking them for the El Dorado Canyon tour. In June’s edition
and we got good press. Board had a good time. Del to go to Flagstaff.

Guest speaker-Anthony Botello-Recreation Staff Officer/Amador Ranger
District Adopt-a-Trail kiosk project. Contact for our Adopt-a-trail.
Appreciate any help we can give. Were up there yesterday and today.
Gates still closed due to too much snow. Couldn’t drive to gate at
bottom of Squaw Ridge. Want to know when we want to try to get in and
get help with signage. Built 2 panel kiosks. One side is a big map of
open and designated route and other side for info, behind Plexiglas.
Mainly for OHV so people can know where they can be. Place barriers to
non-designated areas. Want to try to get as far as Blue Lakes. Designate
staging areas in bear River area. Didn’t bring plans tonight. 12’ posts,
8’ high, each panel is 4’ wide. Want to look for locations to place
them. Road with gate past cattle guard or right at the gate. Prefer a
place where can stop and stage. Other at Tragedy Springs near the
cabins. Think property line is at drift fence. Materials can be provided
if necessary. Per sign is ~$250.00 with the Plexiglas. Give credit to
club for doing it, even if build and don’t pay for materials.
Recognition on the kiosks. Richard says trying for 7/4 if not too wet.
Will provide signed to put on blocked areas. Richard would like the
signs to put on bypasses to let people know to stay on trail. They are
trying to get standardized signage “Stay on Designated Routes”. They
have a small bulldozer to rip bypasses, rip, straw mulch and this keeps
people off. They can try to scheduled on our work day if we have enough
advanced day. Richard-need to get in to survey area. Today couldn’t get
w/I mile of the gate. 7/4 might be doable though. Will get kiosk plans.
Can email digital photos. Richard-we can get started on the kiosk. Would
love to have same trail support as Rubicon. Mike-should have contact
numbers to call and report bad behavior on kiosk. Have a shared LEO
presently, but should be filled this year. Amador Officer retired and
share with Placerville. General patrol OHV manager and 2 temps.
Concentrating right now on lower areas. Will switch to bear River until
Blue Lakes opens up. Spread thin, but have citation ability. Focus on
info and education, law enforcement when necessary. Focus on 90% that
want to do things right. Email: Website for OHV from main El Dorado
website. Blue Lakes access may be limited at times due to construction.
College students will be doing GPS of all of the routes this year and
will do Blue Lakes next year. Once inventory done will have a map for
us. Gold Note area is done and should be available on the website soon.
May be able to get kiosks in even if we can’t get the trail work done on
7/4. hosting another Adventure Race this yr. 24 hrs and will go along
Squaw Ridge. Bikes and running over top to Kirkwood. Like the
EcoChallenge. Didn’t put in for OHV grant so won’t get any funding this
summer. Did put in for 04 SS and would appreciate support at Commission
hearings. Del-tell us what you want to say in the letters. Need help to
get other users to come forward, horses, bikes, etc.-anything for
multiple uses like cross country skiing on snowmobile trails.
Richard-keep us posted on when you need letters.
Strawberry Trail-voted to adopt last meeting. Richard contacted someone
for paperwork. Richard will pursue. Need lots of brush work. Maint.
Station over to 50.
Set dates for future runs.
Past Runs:
Ione Homecoming-Trina-had 19 rigs with 9 signed up. Rained a bit, but a
good turn out and had a good picnic after. Trina wrote a good script.
Try to find script (if dog didn’t eat it) to use at Demolition Derby.
Memorial Day Weekend-Virginia City- Had a good time. Camped on windy
point. Good camping. Saturday am ran El Dorado canyon. 10 rigs with a
few add ons. They were on way to meet people, but went with us. Guests
were the only ones with breakage. Pot Luck on Saturday was good. Sunday
split up. Richard, mark, Larry and Trina went to Bronco Canyon. Left by
8:00 a.m. Back to camp by 2:00 p.m. after fixing Richard’s broken tie
rod. Mike took the SUV run. Gary, Warren, Scott and Mike went to
Brunswick canyon. Sight seeing of Wild Flowers, wild horses, mine sites,
and area near the Carson River. Friday Richard, Gary and Larry went to
Petroglyph's. Showed a few others that came from Steam Shovel Trail and
pointed them to Bronco Canyon. Visited cemetery and did the ceremony
there at the cemetery. Fixed inside dual tire on Gary’s RV on the way
home. Thanks to Mike and Mark for help in getting the tire fixed since
tow truck driver didn’t have tool.
Ron reported on their trip to the Winnemucca dunes. Is a secret. About
40 miles of dunes. 8 families was the largest group the ranger had seen
there. Other ranger reported that there were 10,000 people at San
Mountain. Took Ron 6 hrs/10 minutes to get there up I-80. Stuff to go
see and a few jeep trails. Quad riding, steep hills, bowls. Friday was
hot, some wind, a small storm blew through. 8 miles out of Winnemucca so
went ot the Model T Casino for the dinner specials 2 eat for $8.00.
There is a big RV park there, and no one there over Memorial Day
weekend.

reschedule or do something else.
