President’s Report – Richard
It has been a dull month. Just been adding new parts to the Yellow
Scout.
Richard is now a dealer for Rubicon Express. If you need parts, see him.
Vice President’s Report – Jerry
If Jerry is successful in landing a class she has applied for, she will
not be able to make anymore meetings this year.
Treasurers Report – Mark
Mark was absent but he notified Richard that we had the same amount as
last month minus $46 that was paid to Richard.
Secretary’s Report – Mike
Mike was not in attendance at the moment but did arrive. In his absence,
Don read last month’s minutes.
Membership – Ron
Absent
Land use and Conservation – Del
Del reported that the Rubicon has nearly become a full time job. He has
just recently completed three tours of the trail.
There is a Rubicon work day set for August 16. One hundred sacks of
cement will be flown in to build a bypass around the Little Sluice.
There are currently fifty people signed up to complete this major task.
Feel free to sign up and participate.
Del also noted that the trail is in pretty bad shape. Erosion of the
trail has made what used to be “fun rocks”, “enormous rocks”
The trail will be marked soon with new signs. They are yellow and
triangular with a picture of a tire. They are meant to mark and keep
vehicles on the trail.
Cal 4 Wheel appears to be back on track with the budget. They went from
a projected seventy thousand dollar deficit to basically a balanced
budget.
The Cal 4 Wheel Convention will be held in Reno in 2004. It will be the
weekend after Valentines Day. If you can, make plans to attend.
Del was asked to speak about the club, BRC and other things at the
Calaveras Rotary.
Del has put a great deal of work into his website and invited us to
visit it and pass the word about it. There is also a lot of information
regarding land use to be found there.
Correspondence – Richard
Richard read a letter from Bill Myers. Bill is interested in joining us
over the Labor Day weekend in Hope Valley.
Old Business
T – Shirts – See Mike
Hats – See Ron
Old Business continued:
The Motherlode Rockcrawlers were recognized in the Ledger Dispatch
(local paper) for our work with the Adopt A Trail Program, The Amador
County Destruction Derby and the kiosk project on the Bear River Trails.
Trina made an announcement that the club had won first place in the Ione
Homecoming Parade. The trophy was passed around for everyone to see.
Pete and Gigi will paint the second kiosk and get it ready for
installation at Tragedy Springs. Saturday, August 23rd is the date set
for installing the kiosk. Please sign up if you can help.
Past Runs
Adopt A Trail:
A lot of hard work was put into this weekend between installing the
kiosk, cutting fallen trees that were blocking the trail, picking up
trash, blocking bypasses and draining wet areas of the trail.
Airport Flat:
Had a great time. Some vehicles suffered damage. Traveled to Hell Hole
and played on the Slabs.
Destruction Derby:
It was a fun but hot day. We had a BBQ that was very good but
participants decided that in the future we would just eat fair food.
This would allow us to see the fair and get adequate seating for those
who were going to watch from the stands.
The club was mentioned numerous times throughout the evening.
Dillon Beach:
The group had a very nice relaxing weekend. Activities included croquet,
shell collecting and an attempt at kite flying.
Future runs:
08/23 – Kiosk at Tragedy Springs
08/30 – Hope Valley, (with night run) Barney Riley, Crater Lake, Meyers
and Tahoe
09/13 – BBQ at Ken and Chris’
09/20 – Rubicon Overnight, (complete trail)
Del made motion to adjourn at 9:00 p.m. Meeting was adjourned
