Just a quick update on the Hope Valley run… Yes, we did have a fire. A big one. Just across the road from the entrance to where we camped.
Don’t know what started it but we watched closely as it grew. Pretty soon there was a spotter plane overhead. Then a chopper with a water dropper. Before nightfall, there were 4
choppers and several bombers dropping retardant on it. They flew right in over our camp about tree top high. We all gathered at the entrance to watch. The Sheriff ran us off a couple
times due to the air drops. Several people got some awesome pictures. The wind was fortunately blowing away from us so it went the other way. Pretty scary though. We could see
the flames shooting up just across the road on the hillside. We watched the whole thing and even while we were eating dinner, they were flying overhead constantly. The flights stopped
near dark and in the night, we could see the flames flaring up on the hillsides across the way. Cindy and I left this morning and the choppers were just getting started again. It was
still going strong when we pulled out…
If that wasn’t enough fun, Don Weber found a HAND GRENADE near camp. Bob called the Sheriff and they came out to have a look. They agreed it was a real one and called the
bomb squad. Later last night, they came through our camp and evacuated everyone so they could detonate this thing. After we all got out, they set it off and there was a tremendous
KA-BOOM that rattled the hillsides. Sheriff comfirmed that it was indeed a live grenade. What a night. Ya’ll missed some awesome grub too…
Oh yeah, the Deer Valley run was awesome. We had 18 rigs till M&M Bronco had a fuel problem. Bob and Bob went back to camp and a run to Summitracing followed shortly after.
Seems it was a fuel pump problem. They got that changed out and made a successful run on Sunday though… The wind blew like heck for a while but generally it was ver nice
up there. It did get down to 30 degrees last night though. J Richard and several others made a run to Pine Nuts. He said they’ve plowed the roads and it’s now an SUV run. Ron
took some folks up on a scenic run on Sunday. It was an awesome weekend…
