Pardoe Adopt-A-Trail Pre Run, June 11th 2004

Poobah ( Richard), Wes, Gareth & son, Christian ( my son ) and I just got
back from a work trip through our adopt-a-trail. Wes and Gareth went in
from Silver Lake, while Poobah and I came up from Bear River.
Whilst trying to negotiate a smaller yet deep snow bank, Richard slid to
the left and tipped his jeep and almost laid it on it's left side.
Poobah said everything on his dash flew out the window and his first
thought after pucker factor 9.5 was " Gigi is going to kill me" !
Anyway, I quickly maneuvered to his uphill side and latch onto him with my
winch cable to keep him from rolling over.
He then used his winch to try to pull forward and ran out of luck, when we
heard a very load report and watch his now broken cable sail through the
air and wrap around the tree about 100 feet in front of him.
Poobah conceded that we need at least one more vehicle to get him out. If I
let go, it was roll over time, so we radioed Wes and Gareth who were by Mud
Lake. Two hours later, and much digging in snow and tons of skeeters all
over, Wes showed up and we goy Poobah free.

Here are some pics for our web site, of out grand leader and his almost
dented jeep. It's hard to see the real angle here, but it was an inch or
less from going over.

PS
There were several drive a rounds that we tried to block off as best we could.
The trail was pretty well clean and only one small tree on it, but due to
this snowbank, the Rangers will keep it closed for at least three more weeks.
